Contemporary romance

Love stories for people who find people fascinating.

Complicated, believable characters, the surprising choices they make, and the happy endings they earn. Starting with the Festival Arts Series.

Every Thursday Until Christmas

One standing Thursday plan. Six weeks until Christmas. Absolutely no intention of falling for each other.

Series one

The Festival Arts Series

Glassblowers, potters, jewelers and painters spend their summers on the road, setting up in a new town every weekend.

Some of them are looking for love. Most of them are looking for decent coffee and a booth spot that doesn't flood. These are their stories, best read in order, though nobody's checking.

Meet Alexa

I've spent decades around art festivals and a long career in technology. Now I'm making room for the rest: songs, stories, and someday more hours at the pottery wheel.

I write romance because I like people, especially the complicated ones. My characters make choices you might not make, for reasons that make sense once you're inside their heads. They're funny, stubborn, occasionally wrong, and they get their happy ending anyway.

Perspectives

Tell me what you think. I'll answer out loud.

I talk about my characters: what drives them, where they came from, what they believe and how they got there. Then I want to hear how you read them. Send a message or a voice note, and I may answer it in a future reflection.

Reflection 01 · 14 min

The London coffee shop where the series began

How a voice memo, recorded a little too loudly over a flat white, turned into a glass artist, a festival, and eventually a whole series.

0:00So I was in London, in a coffee shop near the station, with about forty minutes to kill and a flat white I didn't really want. And I had this thought about a woman who makes glass. A real person, with a real van, who'd been doing the festival circuit for fifteen years and was very tired of other people's opinions about her prices.

1:12I didn't have a notebook, so I opened the voice memo app and started talking. Quietly. The man at the next table definitely heard me say "and then the sculpture won't fit in the booth," and I've chosen not to think about what he made of that.

2:40By the time my train was called, I had her, I had the festival, and I had a pretty good idea who was going to make her life complicated.
